Blazing Blazers

When I hear the word power blazer, I’m immediately 10 years old sitting on a bench in a change room with my grandmother while my mother tries on a bright red double breasted suit with shoulder pads bigger than mount Kilimanjaro. Fast forward twenty something years (a lady never tells) and its one of the biggest trends for winter. Well minus the over sized shoulders.

Now if you’re like me and don’t work in an office environment that allows for power dressing don’t worry you too can pull this trend off by mix and matching and finding suits in a more relaxed fabric and cuts.

The blazer is an extremely transformational item. It’s the one item I always make sure my working mums have in a variety of looks as its so easy to throw over your mum look to be meeting ready.

Here are my top 5 looks…

AW18/19 Trend

IMG_5468

As we fall into winter, we start to look at what we should be wearing this season. I can’t wait to start layering up, if anything my heels are desperate for me throw on some metallic socks and slip into a pair of boots.

So here is my top 8 AW18 trend break down. I will go into each trend in detail over the next few weeks.

Animal print- Animal print is going nowhere, which is great for us with very shallow pockets as we can use our summer buys with added layers and waist belts to stay on trend.

That 70’s show- My favourite style decade is making a huge appearance this winter, with maroon, rust and shades of yellow being the colour palette for the season. We also see knee-high boots, waist belts, boiler suits, white boots and shearling. These are all a few of my favourite things!

Masculine lines- For once my style is what’s big in fashion, this hardly ever happens for me so I am giddy with excitement, my bank balance does not feel the same way. The double-breasted blazer, tailored trousers, a crisp shirt, military and argyle knit’s. It’s proof us ladies are the OG.

Yeeha- That’s right folks cowboy boots are a must have to finish off your look this winter.

Coat squared- So for years this is something I have naturally done, maybe its because my South African bones just cant cope with the UK winter. Yes ladies, we talking about the double coat! It’s layering your leather jacket over a blazer and parkers under thick knitted cardigans. I know you thinking hell no but stay tuned and I’ll show you how.

Its all gone twee- Think if Coco Chanel and Downton Abbey collided into 2018. We are seeing tweed, heritage fabrics, faint checks and vintage silk scarf print being covered in almost every aspect of your wardrobe.

Shimmer and shine- As always as AW and Christmas go hand in hand so party dresses, tulle and sequins- both large and small, silver anything and patent will be on the bill.

Frosting- Statement earrings that skim your shoulders, bold cuffs worn over your jumper, layering chunky necklaces, animal anything and of course gold bold chain.

Check back to see how you should be wearing these trends and where you can find them on the high street.

Big love
